Before a ceremony can take place in the state of Michigan, a marriage license must be obtaned from the county clerk in which the couple lives no less than 30 days prior to the wedding ceremony.
What you’ll need to bring when applying for a Marriage License (Please verify with your County Clerk)
A Driver’s License or State ID
A Birth Certificate for both Bride and Groom
Social Security Card
Proof of residence if address listed on ID is incorrect
The Marriage License must be signed within 30-33 days of the application and will require a signature from the Officiant/Minister, Bride and Groom, and 2 witnesses over the age of 18.
Once signed, the Marriage License must be filed at the County Clerk’s office in the county in which you live. (Non-Michigan residents must file in the county in which they will be married.)
